Version 2.5.3 of Tintii is now available for Linux and other Unix platforms. This new version restores support for wxWidgets 2.8, still the most common version provided with popular Linux distributions. Previously, version 2.9.0 or later was required.

Thanks are due to Gonzalo Huerta-Canepa for providing the patch used to restore this support.

In addition, the old Scons build system has been replaced with GNU Autotools. The configure script will automatically detect whether wxWidgets 2.8 or 2.9 is installed, and adjust compilation accordingly.

Tintii version 2.5.3 for Windows has now been released. This minor update makes a few minor interface and online help improvements, along with digitally signing the installer and program executables for greater user assurances.

The new version is available from the download page as usual.

If you’ve tried installing Tintii on your Linux box against the wxWidgets provided by your package manager, you may have found incompatibilities. Tintii has required wxWidgets 2.9 since about the 2.4.0 release, due to its new wxCocoa components needed for 64-bit support on Mac. This version of wxWidgets has hovered in development for some time, with the stable 2.8 still provided by most Linux distributions.

While you can install wxWidgets 2.9 manually, Gonzalo Huerta-Canepa has kindly put together a patch to restore support for wxWidgets 2.8 with the latest version of Tintii, 2.5.2, and you may like to try this.

Tintii 2.5.2 has been released for Windows, Mac and Linux. This release brings the additional features added for Mac in the recent 2.5.1 release to the other platforms, as well as to the Photoshop plugin.

The distribution model for tintii has been changed slightly in getting onboard the app bandwagon. The two versions, the standalone app and the plugin are still available from the one download on this site. The plugin version will continue to require registration. The app version will come with a free 21 day trial period, after which registration will be required. Registration of the app only will be at the price of $4.99 USD. Registration of both the app and the plugin together will be $19.99 USD. Users who have already registered will be entitled to use both the app and the plugin, using their existing registration code.

Only the app, and not the plugin, will be available from the Mac App Store. This version will be maintained to coincide with the version distributed through this site, with some delays possible due to Apple’s submission and review process. The version from the Mac App Store will not be provided with a 21 day free trial period, or with the plugin, as these are not permitted under Apple’s app store guidelines.

Tintii will continue to be available for free to Linux users, under a GPL licence (and to users of other Unix variants, of course).
